B1 Conversation Mannino (21 May 2026)

Intermediate B1 in person with Grace Mannino, Thursdays 4:30-6:00 p.m.

NOTE: this class will have five (5) sessions, starting April 23rd. The first class will be 1.5 hours. Classes 2, 3, and 4 will 2 hours each, and the final class will be 1.5. hours.

Conversation focus. All discussion in Italian. Students will continue grammar study and discuss current events, history, recipes. Weekly each student presents a Word of the Day, and a Cultural topic.

Working to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of specific needs. Learning to ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. Will be able to interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

Introduces fundamental aspects of the Italian language and culture, including basic vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar, with a communicative approach emphasizing practical usage in everyday situations.

Text: The New Italian Project for English Speakers, 1a, by Marin et al, available from Amazon or MEPEducation. There are two versions: for English Speakers with CDs, or Euroedition (no English) with QR codes for the audio.

Italian B2 (2.4) ZOOM with Viviana Ardesia, Fridays 1:30-3:00 pm.

Working to understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization. Reaching a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Learning to produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
